Bwindi impenetrable forest National is found in the western part of Uganda on the verge of the Great East African rift valley covering an area of 321 square kilometers at the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo just adjacent Virungas National park.
Numerous gorilla families in Uganda are found in only two parks of Bwindi and Mgahinga National parks both situated in the western part of Uganda. A mountain gorilla family is a group of mountain gorillas living and growing together in the same habitat. Bwindi impenetrable forest National Park is the only park in the world with the highest number of gorilla families.

Mubare gorilla family: This group is located in the Buhoma sector situated in the northern part of the park. This was the first gorilla family to be habituated in Uganda 1991 and there are currently 9 individuals with one group silverback as the leader.
Bitukura gorilla family: Bitukura is a gorilla family located in Ruhija. The group has 4 major dominant silverback and 14 members. This particular group was habituated in 2007 and in 2008 the family was already available for trekking and thus this was the quickest family to be fully habituated in only one year and one month.
Oruzogo gorilla family: Oruzogo family is also located in the Ruhija sector and is known for its stubbornness but most loved by travelers due to its braveness and it is player full skills the Orugoza family has 21 members and one dominant silverback. The family was available for gorilla trekking in 2011 and also has prayerful juveniles and babies.
Kyaguriro A&B Gorilla family: This is the family of gorilla located deep in the jungle of Bwindi which was habituated in the year of 1995, Of recent, the groups have 20 members with two male-dominant silverbacks. Rukina is the current leader and Mukiza left the group and formed his group known as the Mukiza Gorilla family group.
Kahungye gorilla family: This gorilla family has got seventeen members with 3 dominant silverbacks. This group was habituated and opened for tourism in 2011 with twenty-seven members by then. Later different silver back broke away from the Kahungye Gorilla group to form two separate gorilla families of Rwigi and Busingye gorilla family.
Rwigi gorilla family: This one of the newly habituated families found in the Rushaga family and has 6 individual gorilla members. Rwigi Gorilla family is dominated and led by Rwigi gorilla silverback. This group was curved away from the Kihungye Gorilla family.
Busingye Gorilla Family: Still this is located in the Rushaga sector in Bwindi Impenetrable forest National Park. The group is dominated by one silverback and the group is currently with 9 members. Still, this gorilla family was also newly formed breaking away from the Kahungye family in the year 2012.
Mucunguzi gorilla family: Mucunguzi is one of the gorilla family situated in the Rushaga sector comprising of 8 members with females dominating the group. This group was got away from Buweza Family after a heavy fight. The group is dominated by Silverback Mucunguzi.
Mishaya Gorilla Family: Mishaya Gorilla Family was formed after separation from the Nshongi Gorilla family. The group commenced with 7 members but with Mishaya’s ability to mobilize other gorilla members the group now standards at a total of twelve members.
Bikyingyi gorilla family: This group has a total of 21 members and is situated in the Rushaga sector. Part of the members of the Mishaya gorilla family came together and formed this Bikyingyi gorilla family and this group was as well put up for habituation and is available for tourists trekking.
Christmas gorilla family: This is a new gorilla family in the Nkuringo sector dominated by a male silverback known as Christmas. Other habituated gorilla families available for trekking include Kyaguriko, Nkuringo, Habiyanja, and Rushegula
