First of all, travelers need to know that the national park is open all throughout the year and all the park activities can be done any day.

Queen Elizabeth national park is located in the western part of the country an area that has two climatic seasons. The national park has two dry seasons and two rainy seasons every year and each of the seasons is good for more than two park activities. A traveler will choose the season which is good for the activity or a season that favors their time of travel.

Best time to visit Queen Elizabeth national park

The dry season

The dry season is arguably the best season to visit Queen Elizabeth national park for so many reasons. The dry season happens in June, July, August, September, December, January, and February every year. What makes the dry season good for most of the park activities is the little or no rainfall that is received.

The dry season has vegetation in the park dry and short which makes it easy for tourists to see different attractions of the park among which include mammals, birds, primates, and much more. The little or no rainfall within the park also makes the walking trails and game trucks dry and passable which doesn’t affect the speed of tourists on walking activities and the vehicles can’t get stuck.

Some of the activities which are good during the dry season include game drives, nature walks, birding, boat cruises on Kazinga channel, and community tours. The game drives are good because the game trucks are dry making it easy for vehicles to pass through and the vegetation is short and dry with good views of the wild animals and other attractions of the park.

The nature walks are also good during the dry season because the nature walk trails are dry and easily passable which doesn’t affect the speed of movement. The vegetation is short which makes it easy to see most of the park attractions especially birds, primates, mammals, reptiles, butterflies, and much more.

The bird watching activity is also good in the dry season especially from late May to September because the little or no rainfall keeps the birding trails dry. There are few or no migratory birds within the park but bird lovers are able to see most of the park animals because the vegetation is short with clear views.

When it comes to transportation, accessing Queen Elizabeth national park in the dry season is very good because the roads are dry and easily passable. This means that travelers will access the park in time and there are no possibilities of getting stuck when the roads are dry. The flights do occur in time during the dry season and this is three times a day.

The rainy season

Queen Elizabeth has two rainy seasons a year and the months are March, April, May, October, and November. These months are called rainy season months because they have a lot of rainfall on most days. The rainy fall destroys or makes most of the park activities uninteresting giving a bad experience.

The most enjoyable activity in the rainy season is birding and this is because a lot of bird species are within the park including the migratory ones because there is plenty of food everywhere. The birding activity gives you a lot of birds to see but the activity takes longer because of slippery and muddy trails.

Other park activities like game drives, boat cruises, nature walks, and community visits among others can still be done in the rainy season because they are open to tourists however they are not as interesting as during the dry season and the rainfall is the cause of this.

The game drive activities in the rainy season allow tourists to spot different animals but not as much as those seen in the dry season. During the rainy seasons, animals don’t over move around the park because food is every where and they tend to be in areas with tall vegetation cover meaning tourists will have unclear views of the park animals.

The boat cruises on Kazinga channel are done even in the rainy season but the water levels are very high and the wind is too much. When the speed of water is much, the activity can be even postponed for safety reasons unlike the dry season when the activity can be done morning and evening hours. There are few animals along the Kazinga channel because there is water and enough food everywhere in the park during the rainy season.

For transportation to the park, in the rainy season, the roads leading to the park are impassable, especially those from the main tarmac road to the park. Those roads are marram and not well constructed so in case of too much rainfall, they are slippery and vehicles can get stuck which delays the time you would reach the park.

In the rainy season, the flights to the park can delay in case of heavy rainfall but this cant even happen in the dry season. With all being said about the rainy season, bird lovers need to visit the park, and those that want other activities can still visit in order to benefit from huge discounts on accommodation facilities.

In conclusion, the best time to visit Queen Elizabeth national park is the dry season from June to September and December to February. This is because the months are characterized by little or no rainfall which makes the game trucks and walking trails dry as well as passable, the vegetation is short with good views of all attractions in the park and the roads leading to the park are passable.
