Cheap Bwindi gorilla permits: In an effort to increase tourism during the coronavirus pandemic, the Uganda Wildlife Authority which is a government body in charge of tourism in the country announced the discounted gorilla permits to attract a huge number of travelers as the world recovers from the covid pandemic. The reduction on the piece of gorilla permits was done to attract a huge number of travelers from different parts of the world to come and encounter mountain gorillas hence boosting gorilla tourism.

Cheap Bwindi gorilla permits

In 2020, Uganda Wildlife Authority announced the discounted gorilla permits which were to start from 1st December 2020 to 31st march 2021 and later extended to 30th June 2021. Those who traveled at that time were the ones who enjoyed discounts on gorilla permits because from there we haven’t seen any other offer. The discounted gorilla permits were $400 for foreign non-residents, $300 for foreign residents, and UGX150,000 for citizens of East Africa. Travelers should note that the discounted gorilla permits ended on 30th June 2021.

The gorilla permits for Bwindi gorilla park are now back to their original price and are still cheap if we are to compare them to those of volcanoes national park Rwanda, they would still be cheaper. Gorilla trekking permits for volcanoes national park are the most expensive permit in all gorilla parks for they go for $1500 per person. This means a single gorilla permit for volcanoes national park can buy two of Bwindi gorilla park and a traveler stays with a balance of $100.

Price of Bwindi gorilla permits

Bwindi has two kinds of gorilla permits, there is the gorilla trekking permit that allows travelers to be around mountain gorillas for 1 hour and the gorilla habituation permit that allows travelers to be around mountain gorillas for 4 hours. A gorilla trekking permit costs $700 for foreign non-residents, $600 for foreign residents, and UGX250,000 for citizens of East Africa. A gorilla habituation permit costs $81500 for foreign non-residents, $1000 foreign residents, and UGX750,000 citizens of East Africa.

Booking Bwindi gorilla permits

Using a local tour operator: Travelers can book gorilla permits for Bwindi using a local tour operator and they must try as much as they can to use one that is licensed to carry out tourism activities because they won’t scam your money. To book a gorilla permit with us, you need to first get the dates of the month and year you want to travel and then send us an email. Book with Uganda Wildlife Authority, you will need to contact the reservations office via email. You will send them the dates of the month and year you want to travel and the information shall be used to check for the availability of the permits. Once the permits are available, you will be sent the banking details and the cost of the gorilla permit. You will pay and later send proof of payment for your gorilla permit to be booked. You will collect the gorilla permit from the Uganda Wildlife Authority offices on arrival in the country.

When to book Bwindi gorilla permits

When to book Bwindi gorilla permits depends on the season you want to visit the park. Travelers that want to visit the park in the high season should book their permits 3-4 months earlier in advance because they sell out quickly while those that are visiting the park in the low season can book the gorilla permits even a few weeks to the trekking day because they will always be available. On a daily basis, Bwindi have 152 gorilla trekking permits and 8 gorilla habituation permits.

When to visit Bwindi for gorilla tourism

Bwindi can be visited at any time of the year for gorilla activities however there are months that are better than the rest. The dry months are the best to visit Bwindi gorilla park and they happen from June to September and December to February. They are characterized by little or no rainfall that makes the trekking trails stay dry, the vegetation is short with good views of the mountain gorillas and the roads connecting to the park are passable.

Travelers can still encounter Bwindi gorillas in the rainy season and this favors budget travelers because the lodges are at a discount. Travelers should however note that the trekking trails are muddy and slippery, the vegetation is tall with good views of the mountain gorillas and the roads leading to the parka are passable.
