Combine Lake Bunyonyi and Bwindi safari: Bwindi can be combined with other safaris where one can take part in various safari activities. However a combined Lake Bunyonyi and Bwindi Safari takes you to the beautiful Lake Bunyonyi and the famous Bwindi gorilla park both located in the southwestern part of Uganda. The safari starts from Entebbe/Kampala takes you to Lake Bunyonyi then Bwindi gorilla park and ends in Kampala/Entebbe. On this safari, expect to see the different islands and small birds of Lake Bunyonyi, Kigezi hills, mountain gorillas, and the Batwa pygmies.

On day one of the safari, you will be picked up by our safari driver from Entebbe international airport, hotel, or your place of residence. The guide will brief you about the journey and then you will start on your journey to Lake Bunyonyi. The journey from Kampala/Entebbe to Lake Bunyonyi takes you through Masaka, Mbarara, Kabale – Kisoro road. The journey takes 9-10 hours with different places such as Mpambire where drums are made, the equator crossing at Kayabwe, and Igongo cultural centre. You will arrive at Lake Bunyonyi in the evening, check on your lodge, have an evening relaxing, dinner, and an overnight stay.

On the second day of this safari, you will wake up to a relaxed morning breakfast at your lodge and then meet your driver-guide to transfer you to Lake Bunyonyi where you will go for a boat cruise. The boat cruise at Lake Bunyonyi takes about 2 hours of visiting different highlands with opportunities of seeing different bird species. During the oat cruise, you will visit islands such as Akampene where girls that got pregnant before marriage were taken to starve and die, Bushara island, Kahungye island, and Bucuranuka island among others.

During the boat cruise, you will be able to see birds such as the African kingfisher, African harrier hawk, levillant cuckoo, white-tailed monad, slender-billed baglafetch, and grey crowned cranes among others. After enjoying the boat cruise on the deepest lake in Uganda, you will meet your driver guide, get back to the lodge and relax while waiting for lunch. In the afternoon you can decide to do a community tour where you will meet local people, schools, orphanages and see beautiful attractions around the area among others.

On the third day of a combined safari to Lake Bunyonyi and Bwindi, you will wake up to a relaxed breakfast, check out your accommodation, and meet your driver to transfer you to Bwindi. Travelers from Lake Bunyonyi normally visit Nkuringo, Ruhija, and Rushaga areas because they are nearer. On arrival at Bwindi impenetrable forest national park, you will check on your lodge, wait for lunch and in the afternoon you can decide to have a tour to the Batwa community where you will meet local people, be part of their day-to-day activities, and get entertained by the traditional dancers.

As you combine lake Bunyonyi and Bwindi safari on day four of this safari, you will go for gorilla trekking and you will therefore have to wake up early in the morning for breakfast and then meet your driver-guide to transfer you to the sector offices. Here you will make other trekkers and park wardens who will teach you about the rules and regulations of the gorilla trekking activity. Group trekkers not exceeding 8 people and get armed ranger guides to lead you in the jungle. The search for mountain gorillas can take 2-7 hours of meeting different park animals, birds, and plants. The moment you meet the gorilla family, you will be given 1 hour to be around these apes watch them do daily activities, take photos and learn about their habits. Later you will trek out of the jungle, go back to your lodge, wait for lunch, and have an evening relaxing.

On the fifth day of this safari, you will wake up to a relaxed morning breakfast, check out the lodge, and meet your driver-guide to transfer you back to Entebbe international airport or any place of residence. The journey from Bwindi impenetrable forest national park to Entebbe or Kampala is long taking 9-10 hours so you will have an en-route lunch and different stopovers along the way.

Best time to have a combined Lake Bunyonyi and Bwindi safari

Travelers can have a safari to Lake Bunyonyi and Bwindi impenetrable forest national park at any time of the year but there are months that are better than the rest. The dry months from June to September and December to February are the best to have this safari because during such months there is little or no rainfall that keeps the water levels at Lake Bunyonyi down, the trekking trails in Bwindi are dry, the vegetation is short and thin with good views of the mountain gorillas and the roads leading to these places are in good conditions.
