Distance from Masindi to Murchison falls national park: Murchison falls national park is the country’s largest national park covering over 3893 sq.km The national park is found in the northwestern region of Uganda in four districts which are Masindi, Nwoya, Kiryandongo, and Buliisa. One of the districts where the national park can be accessed from is Masindi town and today, we are to look at the distance from Masindi to Murchison falls national park.

Masindi town is located on the southern side of Murchison falls national park which means it can be accessed using the southern gates. There are two gates in the southern sector of the park that tourists use to get to the park and these are Kichimbanyobo gate and Bugungu gate.

From Masindi town to Murchison falls national park using Kichimbanyobo gate through Kaniyo Pabidi forest is only 85km which makes it the shortest route to access the park. From Masindi town to Murchison falls national ark using Bugungu gate is 135km making it the longest route compared to those that use Kichimbanyobo gate.

Kichumbanyobo gate might be the shortest and easiest route to access Murchison falls national park but using Bugungu gate is more adventurous because it gives tourists an opportunity to explore different attractions along the way. The Bugungu gate takes tourists through Budongo forest home to endangered chimpanzees.

Masindi town is not the only entry point to Murchison falls national park because there are other entry points on the northern side. The national park can be accessed from the northern side using over 4 gates namely Tangi gate, Wankar gate, Chobe gate, and Mubako gate. The northern gates take tourists to the northern side of the park and the southern gates to the southern parts of the park.

From Masindi, if travelers want to visit the northern side of Murchison falls national park they will have to cross from south to north using the ferry crossing at River Nile which bisects the park into two parts. The River Nile goes through this largest national park while finding its way to Lake Albert from Lake Bunyonyi.

Murchison falls national park is one of Uganda’s national parks in the northwestern part of Uganda. The national park is located in the Buliisa, Kiryandongo, Masindi, and Nyowa districts covering a total area of 3893 km. It’s the largest protected area in the country comprising savannah, woodland, and riverine vegetation.

The park is home to 76 mammals, 13 primates, 451 birds, Murchison falls, and River Nile. The park attractions can be seen when you access the protected area and be part of different activities that take place within the park.

Game drives: Game drives are the most done activities in the park and they are mainly carried out on the northern side of the park where a huge number of animals does live. The national park is home to over 76 mammals and these can be seen during the game drive activities.

The game viewing activity in the park gives tourists an opportunity to see different park animals among which include buffaloes, giraffes, lions, buffaloes, duikers, hyenas, leopards, topis, elephants, oribis, Jackson’s hartebeest, waterbucks, olive baboons, bushbucks, Uganda kobs, giant forest hogs, monkeys and different birds.

Birding: Murchison falls national park is on the list of the best birding areas in Uganda fact that it has over 451 bird species that have been recorded within this park. The park’s birds do live in the riverine vegetation, woodland, and savannah areas of the park and they can be seen on guided nature walk activities, boat cruises, and game drives.

Birds seen in this park include blue-napped moosebird, swallow-tailed bee-eater, secretary bird, white-browed sparrow weaver, rock pratincole, black-headed gonoleck, rock pratincole, yellow-throated greenbul, fawn-breasted waxbill, sacred ibis, black-faced waxbill, grey crowned crane, giant kingfisher, red-winged grey warbler, northern red bishop, rock pratincole, swallow-tailed bee-eater, shoebill stork, pied kingfisher, pal nut vulture, pygmy crake, African jacana, chocolota backed kingfisher.

The bottom of the falls boat cruise: The bottom of the falls boat cruise is another most done activity in the park on the mighty River Nile. The activity which is done on River Nile starts at Paraa dock and takes you to River Nile and back to Paraa in 2-3 hours. Bottom of the falls boat cruise is a guided activity where a park ranger keeps telling you different information about the river, animals and the Murchison falls.

The boat cruise takes tourists all the way to the bottom of the falls where they et an opportunity to see the falls which are said to be the strongest in the whole world. The activity also gives tourists an opportunity to see hippos, crocodiles, birds such as shoebill stork, African jacana, kingfishers, herons, and much more. Tourists are also able to see different park animals on the sides of the river grazing or drinking water.

Nature walks: These are usually done during free time after one has completed a major activity. The nature walks are guided in this Mighty park to protect participants from getting lost and also dangerous wild animals. During the nature walks, tourists will gather in one area and the armed ranger guides will take you to different areas of the park.

The nature walks activities come with an opportunity of exploring the national park on foot. Tourists are able to meet different bird species, primates, mammals, vegetation, River Nile, Murchison falls, and much more. The nature walks can be around the lodge or different areas of the park.

Hike to the top of the falls: This is an interesting activity in this mighty park which takes tourists to the top of the falls to see how they are produced. Tourists do move to the top of the falls in form of a nature walk or they are driven in cars since they can get to the top. At the top of the falls are rocks where tourists stand to have an aerial view of the park, River Nile, and the Murchison falls being produced.
