Every day there is chimpanzee trekking in Kibale forest national park. The activity starts with a briefing at Kanyanchu visitor’s center where trekkers get to learn the different rules and regulations of the trekking activity. The trekkers are grouped not exceeding 8 people and they are given armed ranger guides to lead them into the jungle.

From the briefing, trekkers get into their safari cars with armed ranger guides to the starting point of the trek. Here the armed ranger guide leads them into the jungle where they start searching for where chimpanzees could be. The search goes through different trails for 2-6 hours with opportunities of seeing different wildlife that lives in the park.

After meeting a chimpanzee family, trekkers are given 1 hour to be around the apes. During this period, the trekkers are able to learn about their habits, take photos and watch them do daily activities such as nesting, hunting, coupling, patroling, playing, and feeding among others.

Every tourist needs a chimpanzee trekking permit in Kibale forest national park to visit a fully habituated chimpanzee family. The chimpanzee trekking permit is sold by the Uganda Wildlife Authority at a fee of $200 for foreign non-residents, UGX150,000 East African citizens.

Too much rainfall makes the trekking trails muddy and slippery, vegetation is tall and thick with unclear views of wildlife, and roads to the park are very bad.
