Kidepo valley national park is found in Kaabong district in the northeastern corner of Uganda. This park has an elevation of 914m to 2750m above sea level, extends to the borders of South Sudan on the west, and is not so far from the border of Kenya on the east. Accessing Kidepo National Park The national park of Kidepo Valley is located in the northeastern part of Uganda more than 700km from Kampala the starting point of most safaris in Uganda. Kidepo valley national park is accessed using either road transport or air transport and tourists do access the protected area in a single day. Accessing Kidepo National Park by air transport There are chattered flights to Kidepo valley national park by different airline companies to enable tourists to access the park faster and more comfortably. Aerolink Uganda, and Bar Aviation Uganda are some of the reliable airline companies that have flights to Apoka airstrip of Kidepo Valley national park. Booking your flights needs to be done early enough so that they make a program for you. Flights start from Entebbe international airport or Kajjansi Airstrip and then to Apoka Airstrip in 2 hours and 30 minutes. Flying safaris to Kidepo valley national park are expensive but they do save tourists from the long hours of travel when using road transport. Accessing Kidepo National Park by road transport Several routes are used to access Kidepo valley national park in northeastern Uganda. It takes 10 to 12 hours to get to Kidepo valley national park therefore tourists should be ready for the long journey. What is good about road transport is that tourists get spectacular views of things nearby the roads and get different stopovers. The eastern route The eastern route has two routes and the first about 740 km starts from Kampala via Mbale, Sironko, Moroto, Kotido, and then Kaabong where the national park is located. The second eastern route about 792 km starts from Kampala goes through Mbale, Soroto, Moroto, Kotido, and Kaabong to the park. There is also a western route to the park which starts from Kampala via Luwero, Nakasongola, Karuma, Gulu, Kitgum, and Kaabong where the park is located. The most used road transport route is the western route because tourists get a stopover at Ziwa rhino sanctuary for rhino tracking, Karuma Falls and the famous Murchison falls national before continuing to Gulu, Kitgum, and Kaabong.
