When is the best time to visit Mount Elgon national park: Every traveler would love to be on a safari during its best time in order to have lifetime memories. Mount Elgon national park is one of the safari destinations in Uganda where tourists can have a number of days enjoying different activities within the park. Mount Elgon is a national park is the eastern part of Uganda in Mbale district on the borders of Uganda with Kenya.

Mountain Elgon national park was gazetted in 1992 by the Uganda Wildlife Authority to protect different attractions which were in the park at the time. As of today, the national park hosts different wild animals, birds, lakes, and the famous Mount Elgon which is the second tallest in Uganda. With so many attractions found in the park, tourists usually want to know when the best time to visit is.

Well, Mount Elgon national park has two weather seasons which are the dry season and the rainy season. Each of the seasons has it’s advantages and disadvantages where tourists choose the season to visit the park based on the activities they are going to do there/. There are travelers who prefer visiting Mount Elgon national park during the dry season while others the rainy season.

The dry seasons in Mount Elgon national park happen from June to September and December to February.  These months are the best to visit Mountain Elgon national park because of the good weather that is characterized by little rainfall and plenty of sunshine. During the dry season in Mount Elgon national park, the plenty of sunshine dries up the walking/hiking trails within the park which allows tourists to access most of the park areas.

The dry season has short vegetation cover that is scattered and the tourists get to enjoy great views of the different attractions that are within the park. The skies are clear during the dry season and this enables tourists to see most of the areas around the park clearly. During the dry season when the hiking trails on Mount Elgon are dry, the hikers get to reach the summit in a few days compared to when they are slippery.

Visiting Mount Elgon national park in the rainy season

The rainy season in Mount Elgon national park occurs in the months of March, April, May, October, and November. These are the months when the park is receiving plenty of rainfall and little sunshine. The rainy season is called the low season because that is when a few people are traveling due to too much rainfall within the country. Rainfall can be received all throughout the day during the rainy season and sometimes it does disorganize park activities.

Too much rainfall during the rainy season does make the walking trails and hiking trails muddy and slippery. When the trails are muddy and slippery, tourists will find it difficult to pass through which limits them from accessing some park areas during the nature walks and also increase the time taken to reach the highest peak on Mount Elgon.

Tourists who visit Mount Elgon national park during the rainy season will find the vegetation tall and thick in different areas of the park. When the vegetation is tall, the tourists get to have unclear views of some of the attractions and poor photography. The skies are dark during the rainy season and this also leads to unclear views of some of the attractions around the park.

Tourists who visit Mount Elgon national park during the rainy season will find the tour package prices somehow low. The service providers, lodge owners, and tour operators do reduce the prices of the safari package to attract the few travelers that are coming to visit Mount Elgon national park.
