The national park is located in the western part of Uganda and its one of the protected areas that can be accessed by taking a flight. Mweya is the main airstrip inside the park but travelers can still use Kasese airstrip located outside the park. Queen Elizabeth national park is one of the most visited parks in the country because of its attractions. The national park is home to 600 bird species 10 primates and 95 mammals including the tree-climbing lions. On the day of your flight, you will head to Kajjansi airstrip in Kampala or Entebbe international airport in Entebbe for your flight to Mweya airstrip or Kasese airstrip in Queen Elizabeth national park. From the airstrip, a driver guide will pick you up and drive you to your booked accommodation facility while having a simple game drive through the park. Mweya airstrip in Queen Elizabeth national park Mweya airstrip is the only operating airstrip in Queen Elizabeth national park. It is located near Kazinga channel and Lake Edward in Kasese district. This airstrip is mainly used by tourists that are visiting the park by air transport. The airstrip is 283km by air west of Entebbe international airport and accessing it takes 1 hour and 15 minutes. Mweya airstrip is controlled and managed by Uganda Civil Aviation Authority and it does receive flights from Entebbe international airport, Kajjansi airstrip, and Murchison falls national park. Tourists who feel like flying to the park can always use Mweya airstrip which is in the western side of the park. How to book flights to Queen Elizabeth national park Tourists that want to have a flying safari to Queen Elizabeth National park must inform their tour operators in advance so that they plan accordingly. With flights to this national park or any other park in the country, a person must book their seats earlier in advance for the airline company to plan accordingly. There are different airline companies in the country with the most common being Bar Aviation Uganda and Aerolink Uganda. A traveler can book directly with the tour company or with the airline company but after they have confirmed the dates of the month and year they want to fly. Booking with the airline company comes with a lot of benefits among which include discounted ticket fees because they are given special rates unlike if one books directly. If you have gotten the dates of the month and year you want to travel, you will send this via email to the airline company or the tour operator and they will use them to check for the availability of seats on that day. If there is space available, you will be sent different banking details and asked to send some money for your seat to be booked. Best time to fly to Queen Elizabeth national park Tourists can fly to Mweya airstrip in Queen Elizabeth park or Kasese airstrip at any time of the year however there are months that are better than the rest. The dry months from June to September and December to February are the best to fly to this national park and this is because these months have little or no rainfall leaving the weather very good for flights. The flights happen three times a day during the dry season unlike the rainy season when there are no mid-morning flights or when they are delayed Tourists can still fly to the park in the rainy season of March to May and October to November however they need to know that there is plenty of rainfall in the country. The rainfall sometimes delays the flights when it’s too much because the skies are not always clear.
