Accessing Lake Mburo national park: Lake Mburo national park is perfectly located on a Kampala Mbarara high way. The national park is a stopover for most of the tourists visiting west and southwestern national parks. The savannah national park is the closest protected area to Kampala city. Lake Mburo national park is located in Kiruhura district about 240km from Kampala city.

It takes tourists 4 to 5 hours to get to lake Mburo national park and total time taken usually depends on the condition of the roads. The time taken also depends on the number of stopovers you had along the way. These stopovers include the equator at Kayabwe and royal drum makers at Mpambire trading centre.

By road transport, to get to lake Mburo national park from Kampala/Entebbe you need to go through Mpigi, Masaka, and Lyantonde districts. In Lyantonde there are 2 gates that can get you to Lake Mburo national park and the first one is Nshara gate when you are coming from Kampala side followed by Sanga gate which is first from Mbarara side.

Sanga gate and Nshara gate are 2 km away from each other and they all lead you to Rwonyo where the park headquarters are located. Tourists are free to use any of the entry gates to lake Mburo national park based on which side they want to visit and the nature of the roads.

Accessing lake Mburo national park by air transport, tourists can access Lake Mburo national park in about 3 hours. There are no airstrips in lake Mburo national park but Mbarara airstrip can be used since it’s not so many hours away. To fly to Mbarara airstrip, you will have to inform your local tour operator in advance so they book with bar aviation Uganda or Aerolink Uganda.
