Rwenzori Mountains national park is one of the protected areas in western Uganda blessed with 217 bird species, 70 mammals, lakes, rivers, unique vegetation, and Mount Rwenzori the tallest in Uganda.

Hiking Mt Rwenzori can be done in 1, 2, 3 up to 12 days depending on where trekkers want to stop. There are different levels on this mountain but to get to the highest point one needs 9 to 12 days. Best time to go to Rwenzori Mountains national park

The best time to go to Rwenzori Mountains national park is the dry season which happens from June to September and December to February. This period is the best because it has plenty of rainfall and little sunshine favoring most of the park activities. During the dry season, most of the trails in the park are dry and passable, the vegetation is short with good views of attractions and the roads leading to the park are passable.

Tourists can still visit Rwenzori Mountains national park in the rainy season for the park is always open. The rainy season happens from March to May and October to November when the park receives plenty of rainfall and little sunshine. Tourists should however know that the walking trails are muddy and slippery and the vegetation is tall with unclear views of animals.

Getting to wenzori Mountains national park

Tourists can get to Rwenzori Mountains national park in a day using road transport or air transport. By road transport, tourists from Kampala/Entebbe, tourists go through Mityana, Mubende, Kyenjojo, Fort Portal, and Kasese where the park is situated. From Kampala to Rwenzori Mountains national park it takes 6 to 7 hours and the total time taken depends on the number of stopovers and the speed of the driver.

Tourists can also fly to Rwenzori Mountains national park using Aeorlink Uganda or Bar Aviation Uganda. These airline companies have flights starting from Entebbe International Airport and Kajjansi Airstrip to Kasese Airstrip which is the closest to the park. From Kasese, tourists use road transport for a few hours and get to the park. Air transport is the quickest way to get to Rwenzori Mountains national park but tourists should know that it’s a bit costly.
