What is the cost of rhino tracking at Ziwa rhino tracking?: Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is the only place in Uganda where tourists can encounter white rhinos. The protected area is found in Nakasongola district along Kampala Gulu highway. It was established in 2005 to protect rhinos which had been extinct in 1980 after the wars. Rhinos were reintroduced from Kenya and Florida and the ranch started with 6 white rhinos in total.

The above fees are only for rhino tracking and tourists need to pay entrance fees to access the protected area. To access Ziwa rhino sanctuary it costs $20 for foreign non-residents, and foreign residents while citizens of East African Member states pay UGX10,000 only.

How to book rhino tracking at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

Rhino tracking at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary can be booked through a local tour operator or tourists can book by themselves. All tourists need to give the tour operator the dates they would like to visit the area and pay the required amount of money for the activity to happen. In most cases, tourists move with driver guides and these pay at the entrance of the sanctuary.

Entrance fees and rhino tracking fees are paid at the entrance using Mastercard, visa, MOMO, and Airtel money. Tourists should know that cash is not allowed at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary gate and therefore must move to the ranch and ready to pay with the above methods. The fees are paid on arrival and there is no need for advance booking.

The Rhino tracking experience

Ziwa rhino tracking in Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary starts with a briefing from the rangers who teach about the rules and regulations of the activity. After that, armed ranger guides lead the trekkers around the ranch in search of the southern white rhinos. Locating the rhinos takes a very short time because they are everywhere in the park. When the tourists find them, they are given time to watch them graze or do any other daily activity.

The time tourists spend around the rhinos enables them to learn about their habitats and lifestyles. Apart from meeting rhinos, tourists are able to see different bird species, mammals, and primates that find a home within the ranch. Rhino tracking might take 2 to 3 hours within Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.
